Effect of Pyrazinamide and Ethanbutol on the Serum Uric Acid Level in the Man

Abstract
A control group composed of 16 normal males and 68 subjects who were on the various regimens of anti-tuberculosis drugs were examined on their serum levels of uric acid.
The subjects were divided into 4 groups according to their regimens and they re I. those who took pyrazinamide with two or more other anti-tuberculous drugs except ethambutol (PZA group), 2. those who took ethambutol with two or more other anti-tuberculous drugs except pyrazinamide (EMB group), 3. those who took pyrazinamide plus ethambutol with two or more other >drugs (P.E. group), and those who took antituberculous drugs without both pyrazinamide and ethambutol (other regimen group).
The mean levels of serum uric acid of these 4 groups including the control group were compared and observed as follows;
The mean level of serum uric acid of the control group was 4.369mg%, while that of other regimen group was 5.126mg%, and the mean levels of serum uric acid of these two groups was observed to be not significantly different in statistical test.
The means levels of serum uric acid of the rest three groups were found to be in increasing tendency in the order of PZA group, EMB group and PE group, and each of them was proved to be significantly different, compared with that of the control group.
The mean levels of the rest 3 groups, however, were found to be not significantly different when various two combination of them were tested each other.
